天授二年，魏州发生了一起骇人听闻的事件。一当铺老板被害，百姓传言是冥神所为，甚至有人还亲眼见过冥神设宴。民间众说纷纭，皆指武后乱政导致天怒人怨。消息传回京城，武则天震怒，遂命令狄仁杰前往勘查此事。狄仁杰携龙景、柳月儿前往魏州，魏州刺史顾先令向狄仁杰等人陈述案情，并认为是冥神作祟，狄仁杰怒斥其昏庸。随后狄仁杰来到案发当铺询问。当铺老板娘告知狄仁杰，在当铺老板死前几日便得到了一张夜宴图，随后整日将自己关在家中琢磨。突然有一日便兴高采烈的带着夜宴图出门，却没想到死在了路上。。It's amazing to have finally seen this lost film. Poor Mark Burns died this year without ever having seen the finished film! Why was it lost? It's quite good but I can understand that even if this film had a normal release in cinemas it would not have been a hit. It's too sad and tragic. The performances are great, tho.
